The job of the Representative and her advocates is to look out for your rights. But it's important for YOU to know your rights, too. Knowing and understanding your rights helps you get the fair treatment you deserve.

All children and youth have rights. Rights automatically belong to you – you don't have to earn them – and they cannot be taken away. Rights tell you what you are entitled to, so you should have a good idea of what your rights are. If you forget what your rights are, or want more information on them, you can call the RepLine at 1-800-476-3933 from anywhere in B.C. to talk to someone at the Rep's office.
UN Convention on the
Rights of the Child

Children and youth's rights are written in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, a document agreed upon by all countries in the world, except the U.S.
Section 70 rights
If you are in government care in B.C., you also have rights under Section 70 of the Child, Family and Community Service Act. These are often called Section 70 rights.
